body building diets

body building diets
A good bodybuilding diet and nutrition are key components that will determine how successful you are in your bodybuilding program. Training without proper nutrition is like rowing against the current. At best, you would remain on the same place or even move forward a little bit, but in the end, you get nowhere.
A Definition of Diet
Usually people associate the word diet with days of starvation and pain. However that is not the correct definition of a diet. The word diet refers to the food choices that we make on a daily basis. Even if you don’t think you that you are on a diet, guess what?! You already are following a diet. Whether you eat candy all day everyday, or oatmeal, that is your diet.
You Don't Have to Starve When You Diet
A good bodybuilding diet needs to follow 3 rules:
1. It should favor smaller and frequent feedings throughout the day instead of smaller ones.
2. Every meal should have carbohydrates, protein and fat in the correct ratios: 40% carbs, 40% protein, 20 % good fats.
3. The calories should be cycled to prevent the metabolism from getting used to a certain caloric level.
While my article on Bodybuilding Nutrition Basics further elaborates on the reasons why the rules above need to be followed, in addition to a discussion on carbohydrates, proteins and fats, I'll move now to present you with two examples of good bodybuilding diets.

vaginitis treatment

vaginitis treatment
* Bacterial vaginosis. For this type of vaginitis, your doctor may prescribe metronidazole (Flagyl, MetroGel) or clindamycin (Cleocin) as tablets or vaginal gels or creams.
* Yeast infections. Yeast infections usually are treated with an antifungal cream or suppository, such as miconazole (Monistat), clotrimazole (Gyne-Lotrimin) and tioconazole (Vagistat). Yeast infections may also be treated with an oral antifungal medication, such as fluconazole (Diflucan). The advantages of over-the-counter treatment for a yeast infection are convenience, cost and not having to wait to see your doctor. The catch is you may be treating something other than a yeast infection. It's possible to mistake a yeast infection for other types of vaginitis or other conditions that need different treatment. Using the wrong medicine may delay a proper diagnosis and the most appropriate treatment, and can lead to complications.
* Trichomoniasis. Your doctor may prescribe metronidazole (Flagyl) or tinidazole (Tindamax) tablets.
* Atrophic vaginitis. Estrogen, in the form of vaginal creams, tablets or rings, can effectively treat atrophic vaginitis. This treatment is available by prescription from your doctor.
* Noninfectious vaginitis. To treat this type of vaginitis, you need to pinpoint the source of the irritation and avoid it. Possible sources include new soap, laundry detergent, sanitary napkins or tampons.

pregnancy and weight gain

pregnancy and weight gain
Nowadays all we seem to be concerned with is how much anyone weighs. Is so and so fat? Or are they skinny? We really don't seem to care much about health. These attitudes linger into pregnancy, when weight really does matter, but maybe not in the ways you think.
Go back to when my husband was born and my mother-in-law will tell you the delightful story of how she went in to her doctor for the first visit weighing 99 pounds (after two previous children). He gives her several prescription medications. She had water pills, she had diet pills, she had it all. The message was loud and clear, don't gain weight.
Many practitioners don't do this any more, although a good majority still don't send the right messages about weight gain in pregnancy. Society is also largely to blame for our fear of fat, even during pregnancy.
Anyone here have night mares about chubby thighs, expanding waists and a body that is never quite the same? One woman told me recently that when she's done having children her husband is going to pay good money to have her body put back together "the way he found it."
Let's look at what needs to happen to stay healthy during pregnancy.
First of all, no matter what you weigh prior to pregnancy you must gain weight. Women who are clinically obese still need to gain at the minimum 11 pounds, and women who are underweight need to gain more than the average statement of 25-35 pounds, usually at least 10-15 pounds more depending on the severity of the weight problem. These figures are for the healthy woman carrying a single baby. Moms who are expecting multiples will need to gain more weight, although no standards have been devised for these special needs as a whole.
Why gain weight?
Weight gain does things for you and your baby. First of all remember you are growing a new human being. We know that women who deprive themselves of good nutrition during pregnancy tend to have smaller, sickly babies who require more hospital time and have a higher incidence of problems including neonatal death.
How should I gain weight?
Good thing you asked! Because I'd tell you anyway! Remember that eating for two doesn't mean eating twice as much. In general you do not need to add any more than 200-300 calories a day to your present diet. However, it's what you eat that really counts.
Making sure that your diet is nutrient dense, that is full of good things for you and your baby as opposed to junk food that is full of fat and sugar. This means at snack time reach for fresh fruit instead of a candy bar. Add some cheese to your crackers.
Most women will notice a slight weight gain in the beginning of pregnancy, usually about four pounds during the first trimester. Some of this is water weight, some of this is materials needed to help your baby grow. Your baby is still very tiny at the end of this trimester. Occasionally you will see women who gain a bit more weight up to about ten pounds during the first trimester from lowered activity levels and water weight gain. If you are overweight you need to gain about three pounds and if you are underweight you should gain about five pounds.
The majority of the weight will be fairly evenly spread over the last two trimesters, about a pound a week, with a little more at the end. Again, if you are underweight it should be increased by about 25% (or a quarter pound per week) and if you are overweight it should be decreased by the same amount. It is also quite common to notice a cessation of weight gain, perhaps even a slight weight loss at the very end of pregnancy.
If you notice that you've put on several pounds one week, look back at your diet. Did you changes your dietary habits? Your practitioner will also use your weight gain as an indicator of baby's growth and in looking for potential problems.

memory enhancement

memory enhancement
Have you ever drawn a blank on someone’s name, forgotten an important phone number, or clenched on a test item that you should have remembered? Memory is an important mental skill that can be improved. The following techniques were inspired by Dave Ellis’s manual, Becoming a Master Student.
One easy method for remembering a person’s name is repetition. When someone tells your their name repeat it in your mind over and over again. Make an effort to use the name more than once in the conversation. This can sound stilted and artificial if not done carefully. In order to normalize, use the person’s name by incorporating it into your greeting and closing, such as:
It is nice to meet you, Joe.
It has been good talking to you Joe.
I have to go now, Joe, but I hope to see you again.
Saying the name out loud in your own voice will help to cement the name in your long term memory.
Using visualizations can ensure that you remember names. In your mind see the person in great detail. Hold the image of the person in your mind while you silently repeat their name. Picture hot pink letters that spell out the individual’s name flashing across the forehead, or make letters do a line dance across the image in your mind. Make the scene as ridiculous as possible. The crazier the image the greater your chance of remembering the necessary detail.
Create associations with the new people you make. You may notice that Tom has a big nose. In your mind you might say, “Big Tom the nose man.” Of course you could come up with less derogatory associations, but if you use ones which carry stupid insults it may help you to recall the name easier. Associations can be as simple as Linda long hair, Johnny short hair, or Denise with freckles. These will help you to recall the name every time.
When you are dealing with a crowd of people, it makes sense to commit only the most significant people’s names to your memory. When memorizing large numbers of facts, the mind is best able to recall those facts learned first and last. The middle facts can become foggy and confused. With this in mind, whenever leaving a large group of people, make an effort to say good-bye last to the individual you most wish to remember.
Try to get group pictures at events. If names are not included, carry a pencil and write them in. These would make good flash cards for you to further imprint these names with practice and repetition. You could follow this up by making a competition with an associate. Motivate your memory by trying to memorize more names at a gathering than anyone else in your circle of friends.
Mnemonic devices are techniques that increase your ability to recall names, speeches, test information, and grocery lists. Mnemonics do have limitations. They do not help you understand information, they can be difficult to learn, they may take more energy to develop than just memorizing in more traditional ways, and they do not work as well for technical terms used in math and science. Nonetheless, for the creative right brained individual mnemonics can be helpful.
Acronyms are one of the best known mnemonic methods. Acronyms are words created by the first letter of a series of words. Some examples are as follows:
SCUBA = self contained underwater breathing apparatus
MCA = Michigan Counseling Association
MADD = Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
You can make up your own words to recall a series of facts. A popular acronym used by students takes the form of a full name. Roy G.Biv represents the colors of the visible spectrum (red orange yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet).
A similar method is acrostics. The first letters in the words of the sentence stand for something else. Often this is used to remember a series of letters that represent something. “Every good boy does fine.” Represents the letters in the treble clef staff. Sometimes a sentence can be made up to remind a person of a series of facts they wish to recall. “Minnie takes water to freshen sagging sunflowers” could be a sentence used to help children remember the days of the week. This very creative method can make memorizing facts fun and exciting.
Putting facts in rhyming songs helps to make memorizing easier. This is extremely useful to children. If the words are put to music, every time the tune is heard the facts will be recalled easily. This method may seem to be child oriented, but it can be a great asset to students of all ages.
The loci system uses visual associations with familiar locations of a house or even your own body. It can also help a person to remember things in a specific order. The key to this technique is visualizing your own home and placing key items in the different rooms of a house. An orator may use this to help him/her give a speech without notes. The speaker would visualize walking through the front door and seeing trash on the floor. This would remind the person to start with the importance of dealing with pollution in the world. Next the speaker would walk into the living room and see that it is underwater. This would remind the individual to discuss the danger the waters of the earth are facing with increased population and harmful waste product. In this way, the orator could move through the entire house and use the rooms as an aid in sequencing, organizing, and reciting a speech with perfect clarity.
These methods can be useful in relationships, business, and school. The ability to recall information can help an individual develop personal influence and intelligence. As with any skill, developing a better memory takes commitment and practice. The techniques listed can make memorization and recall easier and fun so that you can impress you friends, pass the test, and make strong business impressions when it really counts.

leg swelling cause

leg swelling cause
When a person feels that his legs, feet, or even ankles are swollen, it is usually due to fluid build-up in the lower part of the body. While the swelling can sometimes be painless, other people suffer from this swelling. There are a number of reasons why people can have swollen legs and feet and here are some of those reasons:
* A person can suffer from a swollen ankle, leg, or foot due to a prolonged period of standing.
* This can also be true for long flights and long car rides.
* Some women experience swollen ankles, legs, and feet when they are having their monthly periods. Pregnancy can also bring about this swelling problem.
* Older people are prone to leg and foot swelling.
* When a person is overweight, their feet, ankles and legs can also swell.
* Other reasons for a swollen foot, leg, or ankle is injury, insect bites, leg infections, and even blood clots.
Preventing Swollen Legs, Feet, and Ankles
While some cases of swollen legs are hard to prevent, there are others that can be prevented. Here are some preventive measures for those who want to avoid swollen legs and feet:
* Try to avoid standing for prolonged periods. If your job requires you to stand for a certain amount of time, wear comfortable shoes and support socks or stockings.
* Try to limit your intake of salt. Since salt can promote fluid retention and swollen legs are caused by fluids, reducing your consumption of salt can help you avoid swollen legs and feet.
* Try to buy and wear comfortable and well-fitting footwear.

knee pain treatment

knee pain treatment
When there is a problem with this part of the knee it manifests as pain in the front of the knee after strong exertion (running, walking, or stair climbing.) This may be due to erosion of the cartilage on the under side of the patella, poor tracking of the patella in its groove on the front of the knee, or an inflamed tendon on the lower edge of the patella.
The patella is covered on its back side with the thickest layer of articular cartilage of all the joints in the body. Erosion of this cartilage is called "chondromalacia patellae." On x-ray it is seen as a decrease in the amount of cartilage underneath the kneecap. It may be caused by trauma or occur spontaneously. If the patella is fractured, pain may still persist after the fracture heals. Prolotherapy, a non surgical alternative to knee surgery is excellent at relieving all of these pains.
Prolotherapy helps chondromalacia patellae or patellar tracking problems because the pain-producing structure is generally the patellar tendon or the musculoskeletal support around the patella. Prolotherapy for chondromalacia involves intra-articular (inside) injections as well as injections on the outside of the knee, stimulating the growth of many musculoskeletal structures around the patella. It is for this reason the knee gets stronger and the pain of chondromalacia is relieved.
Patients with pain often succumb to surgical procedures, even drastic ones. A good example of drastic surgery is the recommendation to surgically remove the patella in order to remove the pain. This sometimes does relieve the pain, but at a significant cost to the body. The strength to extend the knee is reduced by about 30 percent, and the force exerted in the knee is increased. There are a host of other risks associated with surgery. The athlete must realize that with each procedure and each shaving or cutting of tissue, NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) prescription, or cortisone shot, the odds of developing long-term arthritis are greatly increased. The key to keeping the knee strong is to stimulate the area to heal, not to cover up the pain with a cortisone shot or NSAID. Even worse is to eliminate the painful area by shaving or cutting. This just delays the pain for a few years until the remaining tissue becomes degenerated. The best approach is to stimulate the area to heal. The best way to do that is with Prolotherapy.
